Sustainable development goals to which we contribute

Implementation began in 2008. The Malpelo Flora and Fauna Sanctuary’s equity ensures long-term financial sustainability of this project.

For this purpose, the Malpelo subaccount was created, a financial mechanism conceived to co-finance the implementation of the Management Plan approved for the Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, the country’s main marine protected area, in a sustainable, predictable, and constant way. Malpelo was the first area to have a financial mechanism of this nature. The equity subaccount was established in 2008 with contributions from Conservation International (Global Conservation Fund) and Fondo Acción (the Americas account).

Our aim is to provide resources to co-finance the Management Plan for the Malpelo Flora and Fauna Sanctuary.
