During the formulation of Fi Wi Riif, the teams from Fondo Acci\u00f3n, Prosealand, and Fundaci\u00f3n Providence, with the participation of community members from the islands, identified the potential environmental and social risks and impacts of the project based on the following principles: environmental and social assessment, stakeholder participation, community and staff health and safety, resource efficiency and biodiversity, livelihoods and access restrictions, gender equity and vulnerable groups, cultural heritage, Indigenous peoples, grievance management, and human rights.\u00a0<\/p>

The overall risk categorization of the project in terms of social and environmental aspects is moderate. The most substantial risks identified relate to health, safety, and protection of communities and Fi Wi Riif personnel, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation, including:<\/p>

\u2022 Inadequate application of national and international labor laws
\u2022 Lack of efficient occupational health and safety systems for contractors
\u2022 Security concerns due to enforcement and surveillance agreements
\u2022 Human rights abuses
\u2022 Lack of legitimacy of the new marine protected area among the local population
\u2022 Exposure to unsafe conditions, such as local or gender-based violence.
\u2022 Exposure to unsafe conditions, such as local or gender-based violence
\u2022 Human and wildlife fatalities.
\u2022 Project outcomes that are sensitive or vulnerable to the potential impacts of climate change.<\/p>

El Plan de Manejo Ambiental y Social es el conjunto de compromisos de gesti\u00f3n ambiental y social orientados a prevenir, mitigar y gestionar los posibles riesgos e impactos negativos identificados, as\u00ed como a fortalecer y maximizar los impactos positivos derivados de la ejecuci\u00f3n del proyecto. El PMAS es el instrumento general de salvaguarda, que integra los dem\u00e1s instrumentos espec\u00edficos, permitiendo un seguimiento sistem\u00e1tico y continuo de los riesgos e impactos identificados, as\u00ed como de la implementaci\u00f3n efectiva de las medidas de manejo correspondientes.<\/span><\/p>
